About this university

The Australian National University (ANU) is a world-leading public research institution renowned for small class sizes and exceptional teaching and research. Ranked 1st in Australia and 30th in the world (QS World University Rankings 2023), ANU has more Nobel laureates among its staff and alumni than any other university in the country. It has around 10,000 undergraduate and 11,000 postgraduate students from across Australia and around the world.

E-cigarettes, or vapes, are causing harm and risk introducing a new generation to smoking, warn experts from The Australian National University ( ANU ) following a government report into vaping .
The major review found the use of nicotine e-cigarettes increases the risk of a range of adverse health outcomes, particularly in youth, including taking up smoking, addiction, poisoning, seizures, trauma, burns and lung injury .

College of Business and Economics researcher Dr Babita Bhatt and her team worked with 20 social enterprises that focus on community projects across Australia to examine the mechanisms each was used to foster social cohesion in their jurisdictions .
One of the most successful mechanisms researchers discovered was where social enterprises had created a community enterprise or community asset that is owned and operated not by individuals, but by the community as a collective .

Eligibility

Entry requirements

ANU has monthly offer rounds. International students can apply for a single program only. They can choose the one that is best for them from the programs and courses catalogue .

To be considered for an offer, both undergraduate and postgraduate applicants must meet the prerequisite and cognate requirements for their preferred program, as well as the ANU English language requirements.

Undergraduate study

Undergraduate applicants must meet the university’s minimum academic requirements for their senior secondary studies or post-secondary studies, including vocational education and training, associate diplomas or degrees or an approved tertiary preparation course. ANU also recognises one standard full-time year of study in a degree program at another Australian higher education institution or international equivalents .

Postgraduate study

Applicants for postgraduate degrees need to have completed an ANU-approved bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework .

English language requirements

In their application, students will need to provide evidence that demonstrates they meet the English language requirements. ANU accepts several tests, including IELTS, Cambridge C1 Advanced and TOEFL .

Application assessment process

ANU assesses applications from international students in three steps : eligibility check, rankings and outcomes and offers. The university regularly updates students about their application status and the step they need to take next .
At the outcomes and offers stage, ANU will inform students of the result of their application, how to accept an offer or how to re-apply for a future study intake .

Accommodation

First-semester, first-year international undergraduate students are guaranteed an offer of a room in campus accommodation. Postgraduate students can also apply to live in a student residence .
Students can indicate a preference for self-catered or catered accommodation in their application. There are numerous accommodation options to choose from, each with a diverse residential community .
All of the residences have 24 – hour security, outdoor spaces, study rooms, common rooms and facilities, such as laundries, kitchens and bathrooms and living areas. They are a short walk or bike ride from shops, restaurants, public transport and other amenities .
Living on campus is a great way to adapt to university life and form friendships. Students in campus accommodation are encouraged to join in events and co-curricular activities that will help them settle into and thrive in their new home .
Support networks help students with enrolment, exams and assessments, as well as homesickness and cultural adjustments. They also provide social and wellbeing opportunities that build students ’ independence .
