Interesting place to visit, shame that info is only in SpanishWe enjoyed our visit here, to see the house that Lorca grew up in. Seeing the domestic surroundings that would have been so familiar to him certainly helped bring him to life for me, as did the photos and pictures round the walls. And the exhibition space upstairs and upstairs in the old stable / barn is also packed with memorabilia, photos of his meetings with Neruda and others, a showing of the one short film that shows Lorca moving and talking and acting, and pictures and posters commemorating his life and his assassination. We could tell the guide was very knowledgeable about Lorca too and a real enthusiast. What a missed opportunity though, not to have more than one introductory leaflet available in any languages other than Spanish – given the evident Spanish pride in his achievements and a desire to make them more widely known. Our very modest Spanish allowed us to get the gist ( the guide talked only in Spanish ) but we realised how much we were missing. A fascinating place to visit nonetheless – and only 1 euro 80 for each of our tickets. There’s a great cafe across the road, too – Cafe Victoria – in case like us you arrive some time before the next hourly tour starts .

An important place in 20 th Century history

In our small group we had Lorca fans, history fans and architecture fans, so it was bound to please us all. The museum is comprised of Lorca’s family Summer house – there is no trendy café, or even toilets (I think?), and just a small shop at the end. But the house itself is enough. Located just outside the main centre of town and within a public park, the house sits nestled among the beautiful Andalusian flowers and trees. We walked there on a really hot day, and were very thirsty when we arrived – so take water as there is no where to purchase any there.

Just as we arrived and paid the tiny fee – we would have paid more! – we were informed that a tour was about to start. There were 3 other members of the public, all Spanish speaking and ourselves, but the brilliant tour guide explained that she would translate everything for us. The tour took around 30 minutes and took us around the beautiful family home, still adorned with family trinkets, such as the table cloth made by Lorca’s mother, and full of paintings and drawings by Lorca himself, his sister, and even Picasso. Lorca’s bedroom was definitely a very special place, as in this humble room was the desk where he sat and wrote many of his most special works. Looking out of the window you can see why he was so inspired to write when he visited this place. There was a new gallery space full of family photos which was a nice addition to the house.

The shop had some lovely posters, and I would have bought books I they had English translations available. Definitely worth a visit!

Go if you’re a fan of Garcia Lorca

This house/museum is worth a trip if you are a Garcia-Lorca fan, which I am. (If you aren’t familiar with the author, this attraction would be of minimal interest to you.) The rooms are preserved as they were, and include lots of photographs and sketches. The entrance fee was inexpensive. The house is within Federico Garcia Lorca park. We went on a tour at 11:15 and the tour guide was excellent. I’m bilingual, so having the tour in English wasn’t important to me, but the guide spoke pretty good English and was able to explain well to the non-Spanish-speakers on the tour.

An unexpected gemWe had heard mixed trình làng about this museum, but it was extremely informative. We walked from the CBD – about 15 minutes, and a flat, easy walk. The tour only happens at designated times, and lasts about 30 minutes. Our guide was passionate and knowledgeable – very good. We went on a Wednesday, which is không tính tiền. Other times it’s € 3 .

Unforgettable experience for FGL fans

Pros: Great value; unforgettable and unique experience to cherish; extensive selection of FGL’s oeuvre in the giftshop;
Cons: Tour is in Spanish; hours are limited; books in the bookshop looked slightly used;

If your stay in Granada is short, it’s not the easiest thing to experience the tour of Huerta de San Vicente. First of all, hours are limited, it’s closed on Mondays, and it’s also unavailable for visits when a large group has reserved a time slot (hard to plan for this situation). For these reasons, I returned to the house on three occasions to try to get in for a tour. Anyway, the chase is well worth it. It’s an unforgettable experience to enter the home, breathe in the lives and surroundings of its former inhabitants, and learn more about FGL and his influence. A very meaningful experience.

The house is a 15-20 minute walk from the center of town (e.g. the Cathedral area).
