The headlining feature of the new Apple TV 4K is the A15 Bionic processor. 2. HDR10+ Support

Fans of high-quality video content should be happy to hear that the new Apple TV 4K now supports HDR10+. Similar to the already-supported and more Dolby Vision, HDR10+ builds on the HDR10 standard to provide even better picture quality. You’ll need both a compatible TV and HDR10+ content, though.

3. Siri Remote With USB-C Charging

One of the best additions to the previous generation Apple TV 4K was a completely redesigned Siri Remote. Compared to the original Siri Remote, the revamped model features a touch-enabled clickpad, additional buttons, and a more natural placement of the Siri button.

With the third-generation Apple TV, buyers will receive the same remote with one difference. Instead of a Lighting port to charge the battery, the remote now uses a USB-C cable for charging.

4. Lower Starting Price

Another substantial change is the pricing for the new Apple TV 4K. It now costs $129 for a Wi-Fi-only model with 64GB of storage. That’s $50 less expensive than the previous base model.

For $149, you can upgrade and snag a version with Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity. It also offers 128GB of storage, the most ever for any Apple TV model.

But there is one caveat to mention, especially for smart home fans. Only the higher-end model offers support for the Thread wireless communication protocol. Thread is a major part of the Matter smart home initiative. Find out more about Thread and how it can improve a smart home.

So if you have any interest in using an Apple TV 4K as a smart home hub, the $20 extra cost will definitely be worth it.

Small, But Meaningful Improvements for the Apple TV 4K

While there is nothing groundbreaking, the new features on the third-generation Apple TV make the streaming box on par with other options on the market.

And the lower starting price could open the door to more possible buyers.
