You must connect an external mouse to your ASUS laptop to follow these fixes.

Go to Devices Click on Touchpad and then click on Additional settings.

Under the TouchPad section, check the Enable TouchPad option if it is not already checked.

Uninstall and Reintall the Touchpad Driver

If you cannot get your ASUS laptop touchpad working using the first method, uninstalling and reinstalling its driver can help eliminate this problem.

Right-click the Start button and click on Device Manager. Expand the Mice and other pointing devices option.

Right-click ASUS Touchpad and click on Uninstall device. Then, click on Uninstall again.

Reboot your PC after this. The drivers will be automatically installed upon the next startup of windows.

If the problem is still there after the reboot, follow these steps:

  1. Open Device Manager again by right-clicking the Start button.
  2. Click on Action from the top bar. Then click on Scan for hardware changes. This will cause the driver to install.

Disable/Enable Touchpad in BIOS

Did you recently update or modify your laptop BIOS? If that is the case, try enabling and disabling the touchpad in BIOS. Here’s how to do that:

Turn off your PC. Hold down the F2 key and then press the Power button. Wait till you see the BIOS screen.

Head to the Advanced section. Disable the touchpad from here. Save the changes and exit BIOS.

Turn off your PC again. Then repeat the same steps for accessing BIOS. This time, enable the touchpad in BIOS and save the changes.

Run Hardware and Device Troubleshooter

If none of the above methods worked for you, try running Windows built-in hardware and Device Troubleshooter. This tool will scan your ASUS laptop, and if the touchpad issue is due to hardware malfunction, it will report it.

Here’s how to use it:

Open Windows run dialog box by pressing the Windows + R key combination.

Type the below command and hit Enter:

msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic

This will open up Hardware and Device Troubleshooter. Now, click on the Next button to proceed.

Once the troubleshooter finishes scanning your laptop, it will list them.

Conclusion

When your ASUS laptop touchpad is not working, first ensure it is not disabled using the function keys combination.

If this does not work, enable the touchpad in the Windows setting, uninstall and reinstall its driver, check your laptop BIOS, and run Windows hardware troubleshooter.
