DO NOT BUY AN ACER.
Purchased an Aspire 5 Laptop – A515 at the end of Sept, 2022. Within three weeks of receiving the laptop, the mouse cursor started lagging – I’d move the mouse and the pointer wouldn’t move for a second or so. This lag got worse over time. When I contacted Tech Support via Chat, the person on the other end wanted to run a Microsoft utility at the command prompt but gave me the wrong command; when that didn’t work they said I would have to reload the operating system – yep, one attempt to fix and then the “nuclear option.” I declined and asked for a refund. They told me to call Sales.
Note that I wanted Support to take over my laptop (like Dell Support does), but was told that Acer has discontinued that option due to cost.
I called Sales and got a guy who told me that I was outside the 14 day window for a refund. I asked to speak to a manager and he actually laughed at me, saying “He won’t help you.” Great customer service.
As the problem worsened, I called Support again and got a slightly more helpful person. He at least gave me the correct DOS command. When that showed that nothing was wrong, he, too, wanted to reinstall the operating system. When I protested, he had me disabled some of the startup apps and this worked. For a couple of days.
Finally, I wound up dealing with anther Support person and she authorized my sending the POS to Texas for “repairs”. I included a letter asking for a refund or replacement. Yep, they simply reloaded the operating system without even apparently looking into why the computer was failing.
And of course the problem recurred and got worse until the computer became actually unusable.
One other point – Acer has my laptop’s warranty starting in July, 10 weeks before I purchased the computer. If they did not sell me a refurbished computer as a new computer, then they appear to be trying to rip off customers by ending their warranties months before they should. Buyer beware.
This is an absolutely terrible company to deal with. Their tech support is untrained and clueless. They will absolutely not help you if you have any issues. My computer is nothing but a very expensive waste of money. DO NOT BUY AN ACER.
