Amazon.com: ASUS 2019 ROG G531GT 15.6″ FHD Gaming Laptop- Hexa-Core 4.5 GHz Intel i7-9750H, 16GB DDR4, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 with 4GB GDDR5, 512GB PCIe SSD, RGB Backlit KB, HDMI, USB 3.0 : Electroni

I am reviewing the ASUS ROG G531GT laptop that has the i7-9750 CPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, GTX-1650 GPU, 512GB SSD. (Just in case Amazon mixes up reviews.)

I bought this primarily for physics research use; it will mainly be used to run Mathematica programs and the like. I did not purchase it for gaming.

Also, I’ve barely used this for a couple hours; I will update this review as I use it more in the coming months. For right now, I will say that for the price, this is a pretty strong computer. The keyboard feels amazing. The materials seem surprisingly sturdy. For what I need, I think this computer will be amazing. However, I would not get it for intense gaming. (That said, this laptop is probably overkill for casual gaming.) You would probably need to be plugged in all the time, and you’ll probably also want a stronger graphics card. Depending on your needs, you may also want to get something with more memory space. I got this version and not the one with 1TB HDD added on though because it was 3 pounds lighter and I don’t think I will need that much storage space.

I will set everything up at my office later tonight and will probably add a picture. However, I am so far quite pleased with my purchase after considering about a dozen possibilities over the last month or so.

UPDATE (11/4/19): I have had this laptop for about a week now. I am so far still very happy with how it is performing. There is a nice app built in called the Armoury Crate that is allowing me to observe and tweak the performance of the laptop. (For example, I can view the CPU’s current usage, the internal temperature, seamlessly change the keyboard RGB scheme, etc.) By the way, with this fan board underneath the laptop, I’ve never seen the temperature go over 40 Celsius.

I have had zero issues connecting a variety of peripherals to the machine. I’m having fun using an XP-Pen to write on online whiteboards like bitpaper.io for tutoring purposes, for instance. The refresh rate of the screen is a pretty steady 59.97 Hz as described. By the way, the RAM is dual-channel 2x8GB, and it says 15.9GB is usable.
