2nd update October:
Dropping 2 stars for basically 2 reasons. The weight and the camera. Let me explain a bit about this because this is something people should take into consideration when getting this phone. The phone is heavy, theres no way around it. Its awkward that the zenfone 3 zoom with the same battery felt much lighter but because of the extra weight on the z6 it feels like any drop will destroy it.

The other issue is the camera. Not so much the software but the hardware flip mechanism. Thoughout normal use the camera will move out of its closed position even if just a little and then you can ‘rattle’ it by shaking your phone. Now I know why there is a retract camera option in the drop down menu because the camera does have the capability to move out on its own a bit from what I can only assume to protect it from breaking. Now before you freak out about this, its not opening all the way just pushing out a few mm. This happens also when you toss your phone on a bed, that ‘shock’ from the toss pops it out a bit which get really really annoying and makes me question its longevity. Also if you tap your finger on the top of the phone on the camera plastic piece it makes a plastic-y clack sound like something is loose but its like this on all phones. Idk maybe Im over thinking it but its gotten to the point where I have to worry about how I place the phone down on any surface which is frustrating. This issue just compounds with the phones weight so any drops will no doubt amplify any potential damage on hard surfaces.

This would be the perfect phone but the camera flip mechanism is nothing more than a cool gimmick which hype dies out a week later. Apps like whatsapp and video calling apps struggle when switching cameras and theres a considerable delay when the phone has apps running in the background and you try to switch cameras on the fly.

Update:
The camera is really really amazing at night pictures with out of the box settings. Uploaded some night shots taken at a dock in pitch darkness, with no flash, and default settings. It outperforms my friends pixel 3a and galaxy s10 since they had horrible glare and lighting effect. My only frustration with the camera is that when you go into video mode, it has an almost zoomed in look and you cant do anything about it. Regardless of main camera or wide aperature photos are able to take more detail/bigger view than videos but other than that its great.

Coming from a zenfone 3 zoom with sd625 and 5000mah battery, this zenfone 6 was the perfect upgrade. Camera is great but the flip camera makes me worried about its longevity, thankfully theres no rattle like some initial units when you shake the phone. Comes with a hard shell clear plastic case which does not protect the sides/button areas which isnt the best but better than nothing. There is no screen protector on this phone so you will need one if you want to avoid any future scratches. Performance has been great. It is indeed the us model (version c) which made me worry since no indicator of it or any of the LTE bands it supports on the packaging but I am catching LTE band 12 which was only available on the US model so thats a relief. It will activate under project/google fi under tmobile bands only as is the usual for non pixel phones. Battery, performance, camera and lighting is just phenominal and im really glad I waited for this phone instead of settling for a pixel 3a or huawei mate 20.

One thing to note, as with all modern phones with that slight curve on the edges of the screen, you will have issues with screen protectors not laying perfectly flat. Im using a glass one I purchased prior to this arriving and even getting it perfectly centered still has that air gap on the sides where it cant lay flat. Hopefully ‘tech skin’ film protectors come out soon since thats been the only one that adheres to all shapes and curves. Attached picture to show you what I mean.
