Asus Transformer Book Flip TP500L Signature Edition Laptop – Laptop Specs

Touchscreen notebooks with hinges supporting full 360-degree flip to tablet mode are a trend that has taken off this year. The Asus Transformer Book Flip is one of these. This 2-in-1 convertible is currently available in multiple configurations. One of them is the 15.6-inch Asus Transformer Book Flip TP500L Signature Edition Laptop.

The TP500L Signature Edition delivers the mid-range Intel Core i5-4210U dual-core processor, capacious 8GB of RAM memory, and an equally generous 1-Terabyte hard drive. The display is managed by the Intel HD 4400-series integrated graphics, with a bit of low-end gaming potential. Mounted on the fully rotatable hinge, the 15.6-incher sports a Full HD 1920×1080-pixel LCD with 10-point multitouch support. IPS display technology for wide viewing angles is apparently missing, since it isn’t listed in the specs sheet on the product page. That appears to be the biggest downside of this otherwise robustly equipped 2-in-1 laptop, alongside omission of keyboard backlight.

On the other hand, the specs sheet precisely lists a VGA web-camera, stereo speakers, three USB ports, HDMI output, both Wi-Fi wireless and Gigabit Ethernet LAN wired network interfaces, Bluetooth, and an SD/SDHC memory card reader.

The battery life is “up to seven hours”, according to the manufacturer. If true, that’s an excellent battery life for a Core i5-based laptop of this size.

The chassis measures 1″ high and the machine weighs in at 4.9 pounds.

As for the Signature part, it isn’t a big feature. It rather means Windows operating system has been cleaned up of annoying third party trial-ware software which clutter the OS. Also, an free anti-virus program is pre-installed out of the box for improved security.

Overall, the Asus Transformer Book Flip TP500L Signature Edition offers modern design and features at a reasonable price. At the discounted price, it is a good buying choice. However, there’s one good alternative to it. Best Buy offers basically the same laptop with IPS and keyboard backlight for $100 more. And having an IPS screen alone totally justifies the higher price.
