Asus VivoBook S15 S530UF-BQ819T

The Asus VivoBook S15 S530UF-BQ819T is a thin-and-light winner among laptops geared toward students. Thanks to its hinge design (Asus calls it “ErgoLift”), the keyboard deck of the Asus VivoBook S15 inclines at a 3.5-degree angle when the laptop is open. Asus says that by elevating the laptop off a surface in this way, the extra space underneath the deck allows for more airflow, which leads to more efficient thermal characteristics and quieter running. At 1,920 x 1,080 pixels native resolution, the Asus VivoBook S15’s IPS panel is no sharper or duller than other laptops in the same range. While its native resolution is standard for the size and price, visuals do pop more on the VivoBook S15’s display. The VivoBook S15’s bezel is a mere 6.3 mm thick. And if users are planning on squeezing all of their friends onto the couch for movie night in the dorm, they can take solace in the fact that the IPS screen has wide enough viewing angles for everyone in the hall to enjoy. With the latest 8th Generation Intel Core i5-8250U processors and NVIDIA GeForce MX130 at disposal, a user can do productive multitasking, multimedia editing, or casual gaming. The VivoBook S15 also features 8 GB DDR4 RAM and Intel Optane memory with 256 GB so apps load faster and multitasking feels smoother. This specification makes it a strong pick to handle everything from photo editing to video conversion.
The VivoBook S15’s bottom-mounted speakers are loud enough to fill a small room, if not much of a departure from the norm. Likewise, the VivoBook S15’s integrated webcam does the job. It captures standard HD photos and videos at a resolution of 1,280 by 720 pixels. Video-conferencing sessions will be workable. The VivoBook S15’s keys have 1.4 mm deep key travel and a pleasant amount of spacing between each key. It’s a full-size layout, too, with a dedicated number pad to the right of the QWERTY layout. The VivoBook S15’s touchpad, however, could use some work. Despite the perk of a working fingerprint scanner in its upper right-hand corner, the overall feel needs some tuning. Tapping menu items on the VivoBook S15’s touchpad feels too light on the fingers while clicking down in the corners requires too much force. On the left are two USB 2.0 Type-A ports and, to their right, a microSD card slot. Asus opted for USB 2.0 instead of USB 3.0 on the left side, but on the right side is a more contemporary arrangement. Here users get a single USB Type-A port, an HDMI 1.4 output, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5 mm audio combo jack. The USB ports on this side are USB 3.1 Gen 1. Furthermore, the VivoBook S15 ships with Bluetooth 4.2, along with 802.11ac Wi-Fi. As a conclusion, the Asus VivoBook S15 S530UF-BQ819T laptop comes with thin bezels, lots of color options, and a unique hinge design that keeps it running cool and quiet. The Asus VivoBook S15 is a winner for students and casual buyers alike. It’s a fairly average laptop for everyday use making it fine for a home office, relaxing with a movie or music or getting school work done.

ASUS VivoBook S15 S530 review – one of the best 15-inch devices at this price
Source: English Archive.org version
ASUS has definitely produced a very good device in the face of VivoBook S15 S530. First of all – it is very well built and looks stylish and super low profile. Its light weight compares even with some smaller devices. We loved how the base is lifted up when you open the lid. It definitely provides some comfort when typing. However, the GeForce MX150 liked it even more than us, since it has more room for breathing this way.

Asus VivoBook S15 S530 review (S530UA – i7-8750U, UHD 620) – compact 15-inch laptop on a budget
Source: English Archive.org version
The Asus VivoBook S530 improves on last year’s VivoBook S510 and should be one of the most popular notebooks in its class of compact and affordable all-round computers in 2018. Most of the improvements are aesthetic though, corroborated with a hardware update and a new and slightly more comfortable to use keyboard, but potential buyers would still have to live with the rather small battery life and dim IPS screen. Asus VivoBook S15 (2019) Review
Source: English Archive.org version
But while there are a lot of things I like about the VivoBook S15 — its sleek chassis, fast performance and decent speakers — it has a fair number of shortcomings, including a dull display and middling battery life. Also, improved as it might be, the ScreenPad 2.0 hasn’t convinced us that secondary screens are worth the trade-offs.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Incorporated, a Taiwanese multinational company, produces motherboards, graphics cards, optical drives, PDAs, computer monitors, notebook computers, servers, networking products, mobile phones, computer cases, computer components, and computer cooling systems. The company’s 2007 revenues reached US$6.9 billion. ASUS also produces components for other manufacturers. The Eee PC initiated the netbook boom in 2008.

In the notebook sector, Asus had a global market share of about 11% from 2014-2016, making it the fourth largest laptop manufacturer. In the smartphone sector, Asus is not among the Top 5 and has only a small market share (as of 2016).

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

NVIDIA GeForce MX130: Mid-range graphics card for mobiles based on the Maxwell architecture. Renamed GeForce 940MX.

NVIDIA GeForce MX150: Pascal GP108 based laptop graphics card and mobile version of the desktop GeForce GT 1030. Offers 384 shader cores and usually 2 GB GDDR5 with a 64 Bit memory bus. Manufactured in 14nm.

Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2, 24 EUs) found on some Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU models (15 W ULV series). Technically identical to the previous Kaby-Lake GPU called HD Graphics 620.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

Intel Kaby Lake Refresh:

i5-8250U: Kaby-Lake-Refresh based low power quad-core processor. The four cores are clocked between 1.6 and 3.4 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading. The integrated GPU is clocked between 300 and 1,100 MHz. The SoC is manufactured in a 14nm+ FinFET process.

i5-8550U: Kaby-Lake-Refresh based low power quad-core processor. The four cores are clocked between 1.8 and 4 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading. The integrated GPU is clocked between 300 and 1,150 MHz. The SoC is manufactured in a 14nm+ FinFET process.

Intel Core i5:

i5-8265U: Whiskey Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Kaby Lake but produced in a further improved 14nm++ process). The four cores are clocked between 1.6 and 3.9 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

i7-8565U: Whiskey Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Kaby Lake but produced in a further improved 14nm++ process). The four cores are clocked between 1.8 and 4.6 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

1.8 kg:

This weight is typical for very old and big tablets, subnotebooks, ultrabooks and convertibles with a 11-13 inch display-diagonal; nowadays, rather typical for 15 inch laptops.

1.8 kg:

78.54%: This rating is not convincing. The laptop is evaluated below average, this is not really a recommendation for purchase.

» Further information can be found in our Notebook Purchase Guide.
