The Halibut Derby runs all summer long from the last week in May to the first week in Sept. With a Grand prize of $10,000 cash for the largest halibut caught, for 2nd place, it’s $3000 and for 3rd place, it is $1500.

The Halibut Derby also has additional weekly prizes for the 2 biggest fish caught. From apparel to gift cards. If you plan to fish for Halibut while on your vacation to Valdez make sure to buy a ticket for the derby. 

Halibut Hullabaloo 

This is a bonus Halibut Derby and lasts only 10 days in June. If you are lucky enough to catch the biggest Halibut during Hullabaloo. You will win the $1000 cash Prize along with the weekly prize.

Silver Salmon Derby

The Valdez Silver Salmon Derby is the oldest fishing derby in all of Alaska. And runs from the last week in July to the first week in September.

With a Grand prize of $10,000 cash for the Biggest Silver Salmon caught, $3000 for 2nd place, and for 3rd place, it’s $1500. The Siver Derby has 1st and 2nd Daily prizes of gift cards and Apparel.

Big Prize Fridays

As with the Halibut hullabaloo, this is a bonus, Silver Derby. The angler with the largest Silver Salmon on the first and last Friday of the main Silver Salmon Derby. Gets the Bonus Prize of $500

Kids Pink Salmon Derby

This is great fun for all the family if your kids want to try fishing as pinks are numerous in Prince William Sound. there are a lot of prizes to be won and a great family BBQ. This Derby is held in July for 1 day only.

Tagged Fish Derby

Twenty silver salmon will be caught, tagged, and released back into Prince William Sound. If you should pull a tagged silver out you could be in the money. Three of the silvers have Prizes worth $5000, $2000, and $1000 The others offer a wide range of prizes.

Woman’s Silver Salmon Derby

This derby is in August for one day only and attracts over 500 female anglers. You have prizes for the biggest fish and when you register for the derby you’re entered into the Door Prize Draw.
