Ingredients you’ll need for this Apple Banana Smoothie
Banana. Just one deliciously ripe banana, but make sure to freeze it! Once you see your bananas are on their last leg, it’s a great time to peel them, break them into pieces, and throw them in a plastic bag in the freezer.
Apple. This smoothie is the best if you plan ahead and freeze your apple pieces, but to be honest, I know it’s not always in the cards. Freezing the apple isn’t necessary to the recipe, but it does make it more refreshing and keeps the smoothie nice and chilly!
Oat Milk. I love oat milk. It’s so creamy and delicious but you can sub in your favorite milk here! If you want to learn how to make homemade oat milk, I have a great, in depth tutorial on my site!
Peanut Butter. I use natural peanut butter, but you can use whatever you have on hand! Personally I think apples and peanut butter go hand in hand, but feel free to sub in another nut or seed butter if you prefer!
Agave Nectar. I like my smoothies sweet so I added a touch of agave nectar. You can use honey or maple syrup if you prefer, or leave it out completely! The apple and banana are usually sweet enough you may not even want the extra touch of sweet!
The best sub for agave nectar:
I tend to go for another sticky sweetener when I’m looking for a good sub for agave nectar, Honey or maple syrup are usually the best options. While agave nectar is technically a bit sweetener than either honey or maple syrup, they are close enough and you typically don’t notice any difference in sweetness.
How to make this Apple Banana Smoothie
If you have a blender and can put things in it, the recipe is basically makes itself!
Freeze. Prep ahead and freeze your banana. Cut apple pieces and pop them in a bag to freeze as well!
Blend. Pop all the ingredients in your blender and turn it on. Once it’s creamy and smooth, you’re ready to drink!
Pour. Pour it in a glass and enjoy!!
Can you freeze apples?
Absolutely! I like to cut my apples up into smaller pieces and I like to think my blender thanks me for this. Sure you can freeze bigger chunks of apples but for the sake and longevity of my blender, if you have time to cut the apple into smaller pieces before freezing, I think that’s best.
Achieve this cool peanut butter drippy look
Sometimes you want your smoothie to look super adorable or just dress it up a bit. I drizzled some peanut butter along the inside of the glass and turned the glass so it dripped down.
Then, pour the smoothie into the glass and you get a really cool peanut butter drippy look inside the glass.
Topping Ideas for this apple smoothie
I like to just slurp this smoothie from a glass, but sometimes you want to add a little topping or put it in a bowl and dress it up a bit.
Add a drizzle of peanut butter and a couple oats!
