How to Forward Ports in a Asus GT-AC5300 Router
The Asus GT-AC5300 router has a very basic firewall that helps keep your home network protected from unwanted Internet access. The firewall does this by blocking unauthorized connections to your network. Sometimes an online game or application needs additional connections opened in order to run at optimal speed. To allow additional connections through the firewall you need to create what is commonly called a port forward.
In this guide we will walk you through each of the steps involved in forwarding ports through your Asus GT-AC5300 firewall. These steps include:
- How to setup a static IP address on the device you plan on forwarding these ports to.
- How to login to the Asus GT-AC5300 router web interface.
- How to find the port forwarding page in the router’s web interface.
- How to setup a port forward for the online game or program of your choice.
We think that forwarding a port should be easy. That’s why we created Network Utilities. Our software does everything that you need to forward a port.

When you use Network Utilities you get your port forwarded right now!
Step 1
It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.
- Recommended – Our free Static IP Setter will set up a static IP address for you.
- Another way to get a permanent IP address is to set up a DHCP reservation.
- Or, manually create a static ip address with our Static IP Guides.
This step is important because you want a permanent IP address in your device. If you do not set up a permanent IP address in your device, then when you device reboots it may get a new IP address.
TIP: Write this static IP address down. You need it in Step 4.
Step 2
It is now time to login to the Asus GT-AC5300 router. To do this you need to open up a web browser. It normally doesn’t matter which one you decide to open, simply pick one you are comfortable with such as Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Edge.
Once you have opened the web browser, find the address bar. This is located at the top of the page like this:
Browser address bar
Above is an example of what a web browser address bar looks like. Find the address bar in your router and type in your router’s IP address.
The default Asus GT-AC5300 IP Address is: 192.168.1.1
Now press Enter.
If everything went as it should have you will see a login screen. If not, follow the directions on our How To Find Your Router’s IP Address guide to see what your router’s current IP address is.
You should end up with a screen that looks like this:

- The Default Asus GT-AC5300 Router Username is: admin
- The Default Asus GT-AC5300 Router Password is: admin
Having Trouble?
This is a pretty common place to get stuck. If you find yourself here, don’t panic, there are a few things you can try:
- First, check all the different Asus default combinations. Here is our list of all known Default Asus Router Passwords.
- Second, try and guess what the password/username was changed to. Use our Find Password App to make this step easier.
- Finally, if you still are stuck after trying both of the above options, it may be time to consider a factory reset.
Learn more about this option on the How to Reset a Router page.
Step 3
It is now time to find the port forwarding section of the Asus GT-AC5300 router interface. To help you with this we begin on the Dashboard page:

Enter the name of the program into the Service Name box. It doesn’t really matter what you put into this box, but something that will remind you why these ports are being forwarded is be a good idea.
The Source Target box cab be left blank.
In the Port Range box put the ports to forward.
These ports can be entered as a list 23,24,25, a range 500-600, or a combination of both 23,45,500-600.
Enter the IP address of the device that you want to forward ports to into the Local IP box. This can be either the IP address of your computer or the IP address of another device on your network.
The protocol that you want to forward is selected from the Protocol box.
When you are done click the + button.
Be sure to click the Apply button when you are finished.
