How to Play Your Own Music on Apple Music

Apple Music is an excellent way to listen to music on Apple and Android devices, and it has a wide range of songs available. But what if the songs you loved the most aren’t available on Apple Music?

It’s possible to add the songs stored on your computer to your Apple Music library. We’ll guide you through how to add your music to Apple Music from Mac or Windows.

What You Need to Know Before Getting Started

Importing your music is probably one Apple Music feature you probably didn’t know about. However, there are a few things that you’ll need before adding your music to your Apple Music library. If you have a Windows PC, you’ll need to download iTunes from Apple’s official website and install it. If you’re a Mac user, you’ll have Apple Music pre-installed on your Mac. If not, you can download it from the App Store.

How to Import Your Songs to iTunes on Windows

Since Apple Music isn’t available on Windows, iTunes is your only option to import your music. Follow these instructions to get it done:

  1. Open iTunes on your PC.
  2. Select File from the menu bar in the top left corner of the window.
  3. Click Add File to Library or Add Folder to Library from the dropdown menu based on what you want to import. Select File > Add File to Library/Folder to Library in iTunes on Windows

Note that you’ll be able to upload only MP3 and M4A files on both Mac and Windows, not the FLAC or WMV formats. Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that no one will get access to the music that you uploaded, and only you’ll be able to access them solely.

Again, Apple Music doesn’t upload it to the cloud but creates a copy of your music files in the Home > Music > Music > Media > Music folder, leaving the original files in their current location.

You can choose to delete the original files, but make sure you don’t delete or move the copied files from their location, or else you won’t be able to play your songs.

Listen to Your Favorite Songs on Apple Music

Apple Music gives you access to many songs, but you might miss out on some of the old classics you had before. However, using this method can add them to your Apple Music library.

There isn’t a way to sync them across your iCloud devices, so you can’t expect them to be available on your other devices. Also, if you have old songs lying on your old iPod, you can transfer them to your iPhone or computer.
