IHS, VA, and Military Registration Instructions

PDMP Registration

Registration Exemptions:

All actively licensed practitioners in Alaska with a valid DEA registration number from any state or practice location, and all actively licensed pharmacists who dispense federally scheduled II – IV controlled substances must be registered with the PDMP. Exemptions to registration requirements apply to:

Practitioners and pharmacists employed by an Indian Health Service (IHS) organization:
  • A list of Tribal Health Organizations in Alaska.
  • An internal directive from your IHS organization may compel you to register with the PDMP.
  • If you do register with the PDMP, you must register using the role “IHS Dispenser” if a pharmacist or “IHS Prescriber” if a prescribing practitioner. Your registering email should indicate affiliation with an IHS organization.
  • Email a copy of your license from another jurisdiction to your licensing board.
  • If your employment status changes such that you no longer work for an IHS organization, please contact your licensing board: [email protected].
Practitioners and Pharmacists employed by the Veterans Administration (VA):
  • An internal directive from the VA may compel you to register with the PDMP.
  • If you do register with the PDMP, you must register using the role ‘VA Dispenser’ if a pharmacist or ‘VA Prescriber’ if a prescribing practitioner. Your registering email should indicate affiliation with the VA organization.
  • Email a copy of your license from another state to your licensing board.

  • If your employment status changes such that you no longer work for the VA, please contact your licensing board: [email protected].
Other Federal Employees (including military):
  • The PDMP has established a data sharing agreement with the Military Health System Prescription Monitoring Program “MHS PMP”.
  • If you do register, choose the appropriate role category when registering for the PDMP in the AWARxE database.
  • Email a copy of your license from another state to your licensing board.
  • If your employment status changes such that you no longer work for the federal employer, please contact your licensing board: [email protected].
Delegates:
  • You must register using the role “Prescriber Delegate – Licensed” or “Pharmacist Delegate – Licensed”. If you are a delegate for an IHS, Military, or VA prescriber or pharmacist, please select the appropriate user role, i.e. IHS Prescriber Delegate – Licensed, Military Pharmacist Delegate – Licensed, etc.
  • You must be registered, certified, or licensed under AS 08.
  • To be approved, your supervisor and the PDMP administrator must approve your account.
