Leaked photo suggests that ASUS has skipped the ROG Phone 4, but there will be a 6,000 mAh battery and 65 W charging on the company’s next gaming smartphone

ASUS has teased the release of an upgraded ROG Phone, but a leaked hands-on photo suggests that the company has not called it the ROG Phone 4. Nonetheless, the next ROG Phone will feature a 6,000 mAh battery, 65 W charging capabilities, and expected to house Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 888 SoC.

We have not heard anything about a new ROG Phone since December, but the weekend brought with it a flurry of information about ASUS’ next gaming smartphone. One source was the ROG Phone Weibo account, which shared a promotional image for the next ROG Phone. The teaser confirms that ASUS will release the next ROG Phone in partnership with Tencent again, but it reveals practically no information about the smartphone. Two leakers have offered insights into the upcoming handset, though.

According to Digital Chat Station, the next ROG Phone will feature a 6,000 mAh battery, matching the capacity of the ROG Phone 3. However, ASUS’ next gaming smartphone will reputedly support up to 65 W fast charging, which would be a considerable upgrade from the peak 30 W charging that the ROG Phone 3 offers.

Additionally, WHYLAB has published a hands-on photo of the next ROG Phone on Weibo that seemingly confirms a few aspects of the device. The next ROG Phone will have three rear-facing cameras, of which one will be a 64 MP quad-Bayer sensor. Moreover, the RGB ROG logo from last year’s ROG Phone 3 has gone, but there is a new button on the upcoming device’s frame. However, the appearance of ’05’ on the back of the hands-on picture suggests that ASUS will the ROG Phone 5 next, skipping the ROG Phone 4 entirely. Tetraphobia may be why ASUS has chosen to do so this, but we will wait for more information on this before drawing any conclusions.

Whatever ASUS calls it, the next ROG Phone is expected to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 SoC. The device should be available with between 8 GB and 16 GB of RAM too, based on the configurations of the ROG Phone 3 that ASUS released last year.
