CEO's Message

During 2013, we completed the establishment of a growth structure for the LIXIL Group that will enable us to become a global leader in the living and housing solutions industry worldwide. We also made our first major strides in that direction.
In our overseas operations, American Standard Brands, a North American company with a 138 year history, became a wholly owned subsidiary of the LIXIL Group. As a result, LIXIL has gained access to ASB’s powerful brand throughout the world in the household plumbing fixtures market and its strong marketing network in North America. We also concluded successful negotiations leading up to the acquisition of Germany’s GROHE Group, one of the world’s leaders in luxury bathroom and kitchen metal fittings. With the acquisition of GROHE, LIXIL has now secured business platforms in the world’s three major regions: Asia, North America, and Europe. Through these acquisitions, LIXIL has now developed the platform needed for expanding its overseas sales to ¥1 trillion.
In Japan, 2013 was a year when outlooks for the future improved as economic trends became more favorable, and Tokyo was selected as the site for the 2020 Summer Olympics. Supported by the feeling of a return to prosperity, conditions in the housing market remained firm. As a result of this improvement in the market and cost reductions resulting from the formation and integration of the LIXIL Group, we were able to report the highest level of profit in history for a six-month interim period.
In 2014, we are going to accelerate growth and make the New Year a time of further progress for LIXIL Group.
In our overseas operations, we will proceed with the integration of companies that have newly joined the LIXIL Group and work to realize synergies among Group companies. We will draw on the performance of our products and the production technologies we have developed in Japan to create products that will be welcomed throughout the world. We will also work to fully draw on and optimize the capabilities of our supply chains. At the same time, we will be positioned to attain a true fusion of Japanese culture with overseas culture. We will proceed to build a stronger “One LIXIL” with a unified set of values.
The Japanese economy is expected to report a continued robust performance. In addition to the impetus provided by a stronger economy, in the housing and lifestyle industry, the demand for home renovation is expected to grow, driven by newly emerging needs, such as requirements for energy conservation and greater earthquake resistance in homes and buildings, as well as effective responses to the needs of an aging population. LIXIL is responding through the development of innovative products that will create new markets across a broad range of areas. These include window sashes, external walls, tile, and other exterior product for the home; toilet, bathroom, and kitchen equipment; and interior decoration building materials. We are positioning ourselves to offer proposals that will result in total customer satisfaction and, thereby, enable us to become the industry leader.
To take action in these many areas, we are aggressively nurturing a corporate culture that will allow anyone and everyone the opportunity to show leadership. We are training our personnel and making suitable job assignments to talented, well-qualified individuals from a wide range of backgrounds. We are creating a company where diversity will be a source of strength and the engine for growth.
