What happens after the exam?

  • After the exam process, the results are scored. These scores and subsequent ranking of scores are certified by the Civil Service Commission at their next available monthly meeting.
  • After this certification, you may be notified by email or regular USPS mail whether or not you have passed or failed the examination. If you have passed, your rank on the Civil Service Eligible List will be announced in your result letter together with your final score.
  • The top three (3) ranks on the eligible list are then contacted by email by Human Resources with an Employment Opportunity Notice. That notice contains instruction on who to contact for an interview. Candidates who receive an Employment Opportunity Notice may decline an offer to interview twice, but are then removed from the Eligible List. The same holds true for candidates who receive a job offer and decline.
  • Eligible Lists typically remain active for a period of at least one year, and are sometimes extended (in 3 month increments to a maximum of 2 yrs.) based on the operational needs of the hiring department.
  • There are separate Eligible Lists for each tested position. If you wish to be considered for more than one position, you must apply and test for each position.
  • If you have a change in address, it is your responsibility to notify the Department of Human Resources in writing of this change. Address changes may not be made verbally and must be made in writing. Change of Address Form.
