What is your profession and why?

House: “(After Bullock Creek) I went to the Saginaw Public Schools in 1999 and taught learning disabled and then retired from there in 2010. I love the idea of playing a role in getting children ready for a career. My big interest was always teaching reading. I
thought reading was important in every aspect of life. As a bonus, I had two young children, and it was great to be home with them in the summertime.”

What are some of your interests and hobbies?

House: “In 2011, Pete Conarty asked me if I would be interested in organizing vision screening as part of the Lions Club. It’s Project KidSight. We focus on screening children from six months to five years. Since 2011, we’ve screened about 350 children per year. I like to garden, flower gardening. I exercise, ride my bicycle, I love to play mahjongg.”

What are your favorite things to do in the area?

House: “We enjoy the Center for the Arts, Dow Gardens, the Canopy Walk. Midland has all of the entertainment opportunities a family could wish for in a small city setting, Loons stadium, Costco, great variety of restaurants. It’s wonderful.”

What do you enjoy about living here?

House: “We are close to shopping. We are able to attend programs at the Center for the Arts. The library is wonderful. It doesn’t take long to get into town and get what we need. We’re lucky to have a hospital close by. People are very friendly. There are good educational opportunities in the county.”

What is a message you’d like to give the community?

House: “Be kind and take care of each other.”
