Welcome to the Mechanic Helper Education Program!  In coordination with the Alaska
Air Carriers Association, UAA has developed this series of subject specific online
courses designed to provide the knowledge directly associated with the tasks aircraft
mechanics perform while gaining the experience required by the Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA) to become eligible to test for their FAA Mechanic Certificate with an Airframe
and/or Powerplant (A&P) rating.

The Mechanic Helper Education Program (MHEP) is separate from UAA’s Part 147 Aviation
Maintenance Technology Program.  It is an online/self-paced program with no prerequisites
or requirements to enroll and is primarily designed to be an academic resource for
individuals working toward FAA A&P Mechanic certification through experience. Please
see FAA Experience Requirements to Become an Aircraft Mechanic for additional information and contact the MHEP Program Manager, Wade Weiss, for a presentation that will assist in preparing the request for authorization to
test.

Each course provides information on principles, fundamentals and technical procedures
in specific subject areas and is intended to help develop a greater understanding/basic
knowledge of the skills mechanics are gaining through employment/personal aircraft
maintenance experience under a certificated A&P mechanic.  Content for each course
follows the applicable FAA-H-8083-XX Aviation Maintenance Technician Handbook series available for free online.

Click the Register for MHEP button below for a list of courses available, thier description and associated fees.
Registration instructions can be found here.  Returning students can access their courses by clicking the MHEP Student Login button.

If you need assistance with the registration process, please contact Wade Weiss at [email protected].

Because some of the presentation files are fairly large, it is recommended that high
speed/broadband internet connection be used when available.  See UAA’s online class technology requirements for more information.
