Minecraft: Aqua Affinity Explained

Enchantments in Minecraft are useful for nearly all aspects of the game. They help you deal increased damage to enemies, improve your tool durability, and even set monsters on fire. You can also apply multiple enchantments to your armor to increase its protection against attacks, fire, and explosions. One unique enchantment, similar to efficiency, is Aqua Affinity. This guide will teach you everything you need to know about the Aqua Affinity enchantment in Minecraft Bedrock and Java Editions.

Aqua Affinity Explained in Minecraft Java and Bedrock

Aqua Affinity is an enchantment you can apply to any helmet. You cannot apply it to any other piece of armor, weapon or tool without using commands. The enchantment increases your mining speed underwater. Typically, when you mine blocks underwater, you mine much slower. Additionally, when you are floating in the water while mining, your mining speed is decreased further. Aqua Affinity allows you to mine at the same speed underwater as if you were on land. However, despite your floating mining speed also increasing, the penalty is not removed completely. Even with Aqua Affinity, you will still mine slower while floating in the water than you would on land.

Like most other enchantments, you can get the Aqua Affinity enchantment on your helmet by using an enchanting table. There is a chance that you will get the enchantment on any XP level. While you have around a 15 percent chance of getting Aqua Affinity from a level one enchantment, this chance jumps up to nearly 30 percent when you enchant at level 30. You can also add Aqua Affinity to any helmet type.

Alternatively, if you have an enchanted book with Aqua Affinity on it, you can use an anvil to add it to a helmet. In Minecraft Bedrock and Java Editions, you can find random enchanted books in the following locations:

• Jungle Temple chests
• Stronghold altar, storeroom and library chests
• Dungeons
• Mineshafts
• Desert Temple chests
• Pillager Outpost chests
• Underwater ruins chest
• Woodland mansion chests

While these chests do not guarantee you find an enchanted book, it is worth exploring these areas if you are trying to obtain any. As well, the enchanted books you see will not always have Aqua Affinity on them. However, you may also find other valuable enchantments to use on the rest of your equipment.
