  • Ab de Villiers snubbed Virat Kohli despite him being the leading run scorer in IPL history.

Batting superstar Virat Kohli is the leading run scorer in the Indian Premier League’s history. In 226 matches played till date, the 34-year-old batter, who represents Royal Challengers Bangalore in the cash-rich league, has scored 6788 runs. During the 2016 IPL , he scored a record of 973 runs in 16 matches to help RCB reach the final. But unfortunately, they failed to bag the title. Virat shared the dressing room with South African legend Ab de Villiers for more than a decade in the IPL. And the two share a great bond of friendship. Virat’s numbers in the cash-rich league are extraordinary, and arguably he’s one of the greatest players in the league’s history, but when De Villiers was asked about the G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time) in the IPL, he snubbed Virat and instead picked a Chennai Super Kings legend as the G.O.A.T. of the IPL.

However, De Villiers’ choice won’t surprise many because he has named no other than MS Dhoni as the G.O.A.T. of the IPL. Dhoni, who is leading CSK in the ongoing 2023 edition of the Cash-Rich League, is a four-time IPL winner with CSK and is one of the seven batters who has managed to score more than 5000 runs in the tournament. The 41-year-old wicketkeeper-batter also holds the record for scoring the highest number of runs in IPL history against RCB.

In a Q&A session on Jio Cinema, when De Villiers was asked, “Who is the G.O.A.T. of the Tata IPL?”, he replied by saying, “The G.O.A.T. in the Tata IPL 2023 for me is MSD”.

Here’s the video:

Dhoni has played in all 16 editions of the cash-rich league till date and has helped CSK reach nine IPL finals and 11 playoffs in the 13 editions of their participation in the league. The 41-year-old Dhoni created history on Wednesday (April 12) when he became the first player to captain a single franchise in 200 matches of the IPL. The game between CSK and Rajasthan Royals at the Chepauk was MSD’s 200th game as CSK skipper, but despite his batting heroics at the death, he failed to help his side win the match.
