Description
WHY WE LOVE IT
We love a good modern watch with a nod to heritage executed tastefully!
The Speedmaster Professional Alaska Project Edition honors the late 1960s watches developed by Omega specifically for the emerging field of lunar exploration. In order to obfuscate the end customer — NASA — Omega picked a random word for the project name. The prototypes developed were technically not Speedmasters, but shared the 861 movement used in the Speedies of the time. Shrouded in aluminum heat shields, they would make for unwieldy wristwatches today, but thankfully, Omega sought to honor them with a more wearable, limited edition-reissue — the Speedmaster Professional Alaska Project Edition.
This particular Speedmaster Professional Alaska Project Edition features a 42mm steel case with twisted lyre lugs, a crispy white dial with characteristic “Alaska Project” handset (including a red chronograph seconds hand), a matching steel multi-link bracelet with a signed push-button deployant clasp, an outer black tachymeter bezel with a black insert, and Omega’s Calibre 1861 hand-cranking movement within.
The Speedmaster Professional Alaska Project Edition is the perfect Speedy for someone who prefers his classics to be somewhat left of center…. Quirky and awesome, this ones a blast.
