Reddit – Dive into anything

Dear People of r/grammar, my boyfriend and I have been debating this for the past half hour.

I said that the sentence “I’m enjoying” is not a finished sentence. That it needs clarification. It needs a what. ‘What are you enjoying?’

My boyfriend disagrees and makes the argument that with that logic how come it’s okay to say “I’m eating.” “I’m flying.” but not “I’m enjoying”.

I used as an argument that when you say “I’m enjoying” it needs a what. Because you can say that you enjoy many things. It has a variety of subjects. Whereas if you say “I’m eating” it is pretty self explanatory that you are eating food. Any type of food, but still food. Whereas you can say for example “I’m enjoying this pizza”, “I’m enjoying cleaning right now”, “I’m enjoying our time together”, “I’m enjoying your hug” etc etc.

I’d love to hear your opinions and get some clarification.
