Rohto Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Milk Pink – Review

This sunscreen is a last year’s addition to the Skin Aqua lineup. It offers a similar UV protection to the standard Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Milk except this one provides a skin brightening effect.

This formula includes a mix of zinc oxide and chemical filters. We can also find two types of hyaluronic acid, hydrolysed collagen, and amino acids. The product is free of fragrance, but it contains alcohol (the Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Milk doesn’t). There are also iron and tin oxides, the former betters the anti-UV properties of this product; iron oxides help to prevent damage caused by the visible light. Unfortunately, the formula includes mica for its brightening effect (I’ve discussed the ingredient here before). The red dye in the mixture gives the product its pink colour. The sunscreen is resistant to sweat and water.

This product is enjoyable to use. It has a light, watery texture, it dries down within seconds and feels lightweight on the skin; the original Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Milk takes a while to settle. This sunscreen brightens and evens out my skin, making my face look more attractive; it gives a tiny hint of pink to my skin. The pink tint complements my complexion, it makes it look brighter, and sort of airbrushed; minor imperfections are less visible, and overall my complexion appears smoother. I can easily apply a quarter of a teaspoon of this product without ending up with a ghost-like face. Though, I think, the pink tint will be more prominent on deeper skin tones, as this sunscreen acts similarly to a mineral sunscreen with a pink dye. I prefer to apply this product on top of a translucent sunscreen, you get a bit of the brightening effect, and the drying (side)effect of zinc oxide absorbs excess sebum. If used on top of another sunscreen, it should work for most if not all skin tones.

The only thing that I dislike about this sunscreen that it clings to dry skin patches, you have to exfoliate and moisturise your skin well all the time because even the smallest piece will be visible. The same goes for facial hair, it takes a while to make it work, just like with a regular mineral sunscreen. I didn’t have a similar problem with the Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Milk, but the formulas seem to be much different.

Overall, it’s a great product. It can be used on its own or as an additional sunscreen only to even out complexion. It brightens up the skin and helps to control oils, but challenging to apply around facial hair. I would say this sunscreen is suitable for all skin types. For people with dry skin may consider applying moisturiser or a hydrating sunscreen before using this one.
