Intro to Foraging: Part 2
Saturday, April 1 | 10-11 a.m.
$20 | 10% less for members

Intro to Foraging: Part 2 focuses on incorporating foraged items into your diet. Lydia Brawner, Lead Horticulturalist, will take the class into the woods to guide a search for foraged items. (Attendees should come prepared to be out in the changing elements with long sleeves, pants, and hats to deter contact with ticks and poison ivy.)

Learn how to harvest mushrooms in the wild, handle and store mushrooms post-harvest, prepare and eat mushrooms, and preserve your harvest.

This class will also introduce the basics of shitake, wine cap, and oyster mushroom home cultivation. Medicinal purposes and uses of mushrooms will be explored as research on this topic is increasingly positive for health outcomes. A mushroom cooking demonstration is included.

NOTE: The Intro to Foraging class series was created alongside a annual exhibit, Midwest Foraging. Foraging is not permitted outside of class time on Powell Gardens property. In the interest of public health, safety, and in respect of our conservation efforts, all participants are expected to appreciate this content for educational purposes only at Powell Gardens.
