Share notes on iCloud.com

You can invite people to view and edit a note. When you share a note, only people you invite can view and edit it, even if someone else has a link to the note.

When you share a note, the shared icon

appears next to the note in the notes list, and when the note is selected, the View Participants button is highlighted and shows a checkmark.

Note: You can’t share a locked note.

Share notes

  1. In Notes on iCloud.com, select or write the note you want to share.

  2. Click the Share button in the Notes toolbar, then click Add People.

  3. Click a sharing option.

    • Email: Choose the permission level of the participants and whether they can add or remove other people, then click Share. In the window that appears, add email addresses in the To field, write a message if you want, then click Send.

    • Copy Link: Add the email addresses or phone numbers of your participants. Choose their permission level and whether they can add or remove other people, then click Share. In the window that appears, click Copy Link, then send the link to your participants.

      Only the people you invited can view and edit the note.

Note: You can invite people using any email address or phone number, although participants need an Apple ID to view and edit a note.

Manage participants

Only the owner of a note can add and remove participants, although participants can always remove themselves.

  1. In Notes on iCloud.com, select the shared note in the notes list.

  2. Click , then do any of the following:

    • Add participants: Click Add People at the bottom of the participants list. When a person has been invited but has not yet accepted, Invited appears under the person’s name.

    • Remove participants: Hold the pointer over the person’s name, then click the More button and choose Remove Access.

Remove yourself from a shared note

If you’re a participant, you can remove yourself from a shared note.

  1. In Notes on iCloud.com, select the note you want to remove yourself from, then click .

  2. Hold the pointer over your name, then click the More button and choose Remove Me.

Stop sharing notes

You must be the owner of a note to stop sharing it.

  1. In Notes on iCloud.com, select the note you want to stop sharing in the notes list.

  2. Click , then do one of the following:

    • Stop sharing with all participants: Click Stop Sharing.

    • Stop sharing with just one participant: Hold the pointer over the person’s name, then click the More button and choose Remove Access.

You can share folders in the Notes app on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac.
