Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Milk SPF 50+ – Review

This sunscreen makes me very happy, especially after two recent failures, because it does what it says on the box. Let me start by saying that this product has been repackaged. It’s the same formula but in a sky-blue bottle instead of a yellow one. Don’t confuse it with a new sunscreen in a pink bottle; it’s an entirely different formula.

This sunscreen has quite an emollient base; there are no alcohol, fragrance, and dyes. The primary filter is zinc oxide as it’s the highest on the list; it must be micronised because it looks good on the skin. Also, it contains a couple of chemical filters. This sunscreen has SPF 50+ and PA ++++ (PPD 16+) the highest in Japanese ratings, which is a decent level of protection. The product is resistant to sweat and sebum as well.

In this formula, we can find Rohto’s super hyaluronic acid and moisturising glycerine. There’s arginine, which acts like an antioxidant, great for fighting free radicals. The formula also includes a fascinating ingredient called bis-ethylhexyl ydroxydimethoxy benzylmalonate, also known as RonaCare AP. It is described as an ‘intelligent skin protection system that fills the gaps left by traditional light protection.’ According to the producer, the ingredient is meant to ‘enhance the skin’s own protection system, fight pollution, prevent aging and acne.’ (merckgroup.com) Is this the magic ingredient in this sunscreen? I am not sure, but it seems to be promising. This antioxidant has been proven to be helpful with blemishes and oiliness. There aren’t loads of products with this ingredient on the market (at least I couldn’t find many), but you can find it in Dr Dennis Gross and Avene’s sunscreens.

This sunscreen is very pleasing to use. Before you apply, you need to make sure you shake it well, until you can hear the sound of the ball inside the bottle. At first, when you apply it, you may think that it’s a disaster – the runny lotion which feels quite creamy makes your skin look greasy. I mean a total grease ball. However, after about ten minutes, this sunscreen transforms on your skin from an oily layer into nothing, literally nothing. Once this sunscreen dries down on your skin, it doesn’t appear on your face at all. It doesn’t even leave any sticky residue or a white cast despite the high content of zinc oxide; make sure you blend it in nicely, so you don’t get streaks. It just gives a light matt finish, not powdery looking, but very natural. This sunscreen is supposed to be ‘super’ hydrating, and usually, such sunscreens aren’t suited for me as they leave my skin shiny right after application. But, I am okay with this product; it doesn’t exacerbate my sebum production or break me out. Throughout the day, the skin looks great, and I don’t even have to worry about blotting. This sunscreen creates a perfect base for anything colourful, BB creams, cushions; you name it. It doesn’t move around or sting the eyes at all. I would say that it is suitable for all skin types, even sensitive ones (of course if you tolerate all the ingredients).

Overall, it’s a wonderful product. It has an excellent finish, and it hydrates the skin. The sunscreen provides high sun protection, and the formula contains ingredients beneficial for the skin. It doesn’t leave a white cast, and in my case, it didn’t cause any breakouts. In my opinion, it’s suitable for all skin types.
