Sword Art Online: Unleash Blading will shut down from January 2023

The latest Sword Art Online game Unleash Blading will shut down its servers from January 2023 as per Bandai Namco‘s announcement. Sword Art Online: Unleash Blading was launched in November 2019 and this is not the first SAO game to be closed down. During its first release in November 2019, the mobile game was originally titled SAO Alicization Blading in Japan, while the global version was titled SAO Alicization Rising Steel.

It will be the series’ fifth mobile game to be shut down after not being updated in over a month. As the developer announced its shutdown time and date, it also disabled the ability to purchase Diamond cubes which is the premium currency of the game.

As SAO Unleash Blading will shut down and the servers will stop functioning on January 16th, 2023, the in-game purchases have also been disabled on November 14th, 2022. This is not one of the first games that Bandai Namco is shutting down. The developer has shut down many of its mobile games 2022 which are some of the most popular names in the mobile gaming market.

SAO Unleash Blading had several plans for upcoming updates. The game’s developers intended to expand on Kirito and Asuna’s journey in the underworld and introduce one of the Lords of the Human Empire. However, it appears that fans will be unable to see all of these new updates.

The game has recorded a steady decline in the last few months with profits of merely 73,000 USD. Additionally, Bandai Namco has been looking forward to releasing another new title of SAO named SAO Variant Showdown which has a potential chance to replace Unleashing Blading in the future.
