Chris Bumstead Bio: Age, Height, Workout, And Diet!
Bodybuilding is, without a doubt, a sport that has progressed hugely in terms of popularity over the last few decades.
Whereas it was once upon a time considered a circus act for musclebound freaks, it is now considered the norm by a lot of people.
In years previous, bodybuilding was only a sport that was enjoyed by the most hardcore and loyal of fans.
Furthermore, at the prestigious Mr. Olympia contest, which is the Super Bowl of the bodybuilding world, it was only the heavyweights that people really cared about.
People wanted bodybuilders like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dorian Yates, Ronnie Coleman, and Jay Cutler, and they considered the bodybuilders in the lower weight classes and divisions to be afterthoughts. Things are now very different.
Now, people flock to the Olympia every year to enjoy bodybuilders from a variety of different weight classes and divisions.
Out of the many divisions in the IFBB Mr. Olympia contest, the Classic Physique is now arguably almost as popular as the heavyweights.
Out of the many Classic Physique winners we’ve seen over the years, none have been as dominant and as aesthetically pleasing as Chris Bumstead, and it is he whom we’ll be learning more about today.
Here is a brief bio of IFBB pro bodybuilder Chris Bumstead.
Who is Chris Bumstead?
Chris Bumstead is an IFBB pro bodybuilder from Canada, born on February 2, 1995 (age 27 years old), who is a reigning, defending, undisputed Mr. Olympia Classic Physique winner.
Not only is Chris a pro bodybuilder, but he is also a fitness model such as Andrei Deiu , a sponsored athlete, an online trainer, and a social media influencer thanks to his impressive physique and his accomplishments.
Chris stands at 6ft 1 inch tall and weighs in at between 235 lbs when competing, and 260lbs during the off-season when he is bulking and can be more relaxed with his diet and with his workout.
Bumstead has one of the most impressive physiques in the industry as he is carrying a lot of mass and size, without any bloating while maintaining a small waist and a very impressive V taper.
His physique reminds a lot of people of a cross between a prime Arnold Schwarzenegger and Frank Zane.

More About The Classic Physique Division:
Before we learn more about Chris Bumstead, we’ll first learn about the division which has helped him to achieve so much success in the sport of bodybuilding.
The Classic Physique Division at Mr. Olympia is a relatively new division that was created to showcase physiques that resemble the classic physiques of Mr. Olympia in past from what many call the ‘Golden Era’ of bodybuilding, which was the 1970s and early 80s.
During that time, physiques were muscular and powerful, yet considered hugely aesthetic as bodybuilders were big, without being too big.
A typical bodybuilder such as Arnie would weigh around 235 – 240 pounds.
Nowadays, bodybuilders less than 6ft in height easily weigh upwards of 300 pounds, and people consider them too big.
In the 1990s, judges apparently changed their preferences in terms of physiques, as they would look at bigger bodybuilders.
Dorian Yates ushered in the ‘Mass Monster’ era as he was enormous, and packed on heaps of size while maintaining crazy conditioning.
Over time, people went off the mass monster look as bodybuilders got too big and sacrificed conditioning and aesthetics for size.
A lot of bodybuilders had ‘bubble guts’ that made them look pregnant, and people didn’t like that, they wanted something new.
The Classic Physique Division was developed to give people exactly that.
Now, bodybuilders didn’t have to train to weigh 300 pounds, they could instead stay lean, keep their waists small, and achieve physiques that would look at home on the Mr. Olympia stage in the 1970s.
Chris Bumstead’s Early Life:
Now that we know what CBum is all about and where he competes, let’s find out more about his early life growing up.
Chris Bumstead was born and raised in the capital city of Canada, Ottawa, back on the 2nd of February, 1995.
He had a healthy upbringing and was very sociable and active from a young age.
Cbum enjoyed sports from a young age and was a gifted athlete. He would compete in basketball, baseball, football, and athletics while growing up.
Aged 14, when training to become stronger and faster for football, Chris walked into a weight room for the first time and instantly fell in love with weightlifting.
He began training more seriously as he learned more about bodybuilding and weight training and between the 9th and the 12th grade, he went from a scrawny 170 pounds to a solid 225 pounds.
In particular, his legs responded the most favorably to the workout he was doing.
This should be no surprise, as he has stated that Tom Platz was one of his idols growing up, who is, to this day, considered to be the bodybuilder with the absolute best legs in the history of the sport.
Chris looked decent enough, though he was humbled when he met his sister’s boyfriend, who was a professional bodybuilder himself, by the name of Iain Valliere.
The two got on well and started to train together, with Iain taking the younger Bumstead under his wing, coaching him, and teaching him the ins and outs of the sport of bodybuilding.
When he was just 19, he trained Chris for his first show.
Chris to this day credits Iain as being inspirational in his workout and the man responsible for getting him to where he’s at today.
Bodybuilding And Career:
As the years went by and Bumstead grew older and matured from a teen into a young man, he began to get bigger and bigger, and hungrier and hungrier to compete as a bodybuilder.
He finally got his chance to step on stage in 2014, when, aged just 19 he competed in his first contest.
Just two years later, at the young age of 21, he earned his pro card and became an IFBB pro bodybuilder when he won the 2016 IFBB North American Bodybuilding Championships.
As a pro, he picked up various sponsorships and endorsement deals and was featured in various fitness magazines and in photoshoots.
He competed in a handful of contests but ultimately he wanted to compete on stage in Vegas at Mr. Olympia.
In 2017, Bumstead finally got his wish when he made his Mr. Olympia debut in the Olympia Classic Physique Division.
He placed incredibly well and finished as runner-up on his debut. A year later, he was back for more and again finished as runner-up.
The first time he finished in this position he celebrated and considered it a success.
The following year in 2018, he considered it a failure as he had set his sights on victory.
On both occasions, he lost out to Breon Ansley but got his redemption in 2019, when he finally finished in 1st place in the Classic Physique Division.
He would go on to compete again in 2020 and 2021, securing victory on both occasions, making him the current reigning champ in that particular division.
His win in 2019 was especially impressive, due largely to the fact that Chris Bumstead underwent hernia surgery not long before he competed.
Breon Ansley and his trainer, IFBB pro-Chris Cormier, were also unhappy with the result and contested heavily.
It’s safe to say, therefore, that there is no love lost between Bumstead and the two men.
Chris Bumstead Workout:
If you want to see how committed Bumstead is to his workout, all you have to do is look at his physique.
Bumstead trains like a beast, though back in 2020 he was forced to train at home like many other people in the world, due to the Coronavirus pandemic which caused gyms to close for months on end.
As he went on to finish first at the Olympia however, it’s safe to say that this didn’t really do him any harm.
As for his workout, he is a firm believer in switching things up and trying different routines and exercises, depending on how he is looking and how his body and his muscles are performing in the gym.

CBum typically follows different splits such as PPL workout, as some weeks he will pair up muscle groups and perhaps go with things such as arms and shoulders, and legs and abs.
Sometimes, however, if he is looking to add size to specific muscle groups, he will go ahead and isolate muscle groups so he may work his chest one day, his back the next, his legs the next, and so on.
When working out, he trains at a high intensity and trains to failure on every working set.
He will also perform drop sets, and supersets to really shock his muscles into new growth.
