How to disable the touchpad on a laptop when a mouse is plugged in on Windows 10
This tutorial will show you step by step how to automatically disable the touchpad on an ASUS and HP laptop when an external mouse is plugged in on Windows 10.
How to disable the touchpad on an ASUS laptop when an external mouse is plugged in
1. Double-click on the “ASUS Smart Gesture” icon located in the system tray.
A “ASUS Smart Gesture” window will appear.
2. Click on Mouse Detection.
3. Check the checkbox next to the Disable touchpad when mouse is plugged-in option.
4. Click on the Apply button in the bottom right corner of the window.
5. Click on the OK button.
Your laptop’s touchpad will now automatically disable each time an external mouse is connected.
On most laptops, you can also disable the touchpad by pressing the function key (Fn) and one of the F keys on the keyboard. For example, on my Asus laptop, pressing the FN + F9 keys on my keyboard disables the touchpad.
How to disable the touchpad on an HP laptop when an external mouse is plugged in
1. Click on the start menu button.
2. Click on Settings.
Or right-click on the start menu button and then click on Settings.
3. Click on Devices.
4. Click on Mouse in the left menu.
5. Click on Additional mouse options in the upper right corner.
A “Mouse Properties” window will appear.
6. Click on ELAN.
7. Check the Disable when external USB pointing device plug in option.
8. Click on the Apply button at the bottom of the window.
9. Click on the OK button.
Your laptop’s touchpad will now automatically disable each time an external mouse is connected.
