How to Recognize Teto at a Glance

Her hair is the most important part of her design, and, undoubtedly, the easiest way to identify her. Her hair is red, but in some depictions her hair has orange or pink hues, and even neon wicks. She ostensibly sports a pair of very special pigtails, which resemble drills. This haircut is known as twin drills. The red color stands out a lot in Teto’s design, and her eyes are no exception, as their color is blood red, and sometimes, dark pink.

Teto’s Classic Dress

Her clothing is frequently compared to military garments. Her official costume is a dark grey two-piece dress (blouse and skirt) with red or pink adornments. Her blouse may have pockets with buttons. She also wears a pair of detached sleeves with buttons. As is usual among Utau and Vocaloid characters, she also wears headphones, usually red-purple, with neon lights.

A chain hangs from her skirt, on her left side. It is attached to the inner face of her skirt. This is a unique characteristic of Teto, because it was a design error. She also wears long stockings that seem to be part of her shoes.

Teto and French Bread

Vocaloid established a trend, where each character has an item. An item is a special personal object or thing that represents the image and personality of these picturesque virtual characters. The item of Kasane Teto is french bread or baguette. It is said that she can not let a day pass without eating one, because if she does, she sulks and starts making mischief, complicating the existence of her fellow UTAU and Vocaloids. On the other hand, if she sees one of her friends eating a baguette, she will be really annoyed if they don’t invite her. Beware of the tantrums of Teto-chan!

Teto’s Favorite Phrases

Teto’s slogan is “I’ll take any microphone!” (Don’na maiku mo nigirimasu).

However, her most famous phrase is “You’re really stupid!” (Kimi wa jitsuni baka dana), which originates from the joke of her creation. This is the phrase that was used to make fun of the visitors who entered in her fake page. There are some Teto songs with this phrase in the title, and other songs mention it as part of the lyrics.

How Old is Teto?

The official age of Kasane Teto is 31 years, so often call she is called “misoji”, which is a Japanese word that refers to a person of 30 years or more. However, she appears to be 15 years old. For this feature she is often called “zuko”, a person who appears to look much younger than their real age.

To explain this discrepancy, fans conferred Teto the longevity characteristic of a mythological supernatural being called “Chimera”. Because many representations depict Teto with wings, with a side chain manifesting as a tail, and drill-shaped pigtails that resemble horns, it is thought that she is a hybrid of bat (or dragon) and human.

Furthermore, there are disputes about whether 31 years is her human age and 15 years is her chimera age, or the other way round. Personally, I think that Teto is 31 human years old.

Because she is a chimera, and she ages much slower than normal people (like, say, a vampire), it is totally admissible that she would look quite young.

Personality: Common Depictions

Teto is a very innocent girl, at least more than Hatsune Miku, which is very evident in all her appearances in videos and dramas. However, occasionally she fantasizes with some illicit affair. She is happy, anxious, and can sometimes be mischievous. Especially if she is disturbed by Defoko. She adamantly hates being called misoji (someone of 30 years old) and she even more hates being called makeinu (old maid). From time to time she has her bad moments when she sees her friends or other girls have better luck with guys. She also dislikes when her braids are referred to as drills.

Teto is a tsundere, that is a person who does not easily show her true feelings to others and instead feigns indifference, hatred, disgust, or dislike. She can even make fun of the people that she cares about, especially boys and people to whom she is attracted. This behavior is due to her shyness and her fear of being ignored. Actually she does not know how she should behave in certain situations, and she behaves that way when she doesn’t know how she should reflect her feelings. The best thing she can do to show her concern or love for someone is to sing. The degree of Teto‘s tsunderism is fortunately less than that of Akita Neru, and Teto doesn´t show any yandere traits.

Sometimes Teto experiments episodes of narcissism. She likes to call attention to herself and be the leader. But note that her mood depends more on whether she has recently eaten French bread.

The Zodiac Sign that Best Fits Teto

Teto’s zodiac sign is Aries (♈) (March 21 to April 20). It symbolizes rebirth, the start of spring, leadership, strength, impulse, authority, youth, head accidents, fire danger and weapons. Its element is fire, its metal is iron, its season is spring, its color is red, and its planet is Mars. An Aries is a person full of energy and enthusiasm. Pioneer and adventurous, she loves a challenge, freedom and new ideas. She likes to lead and give instruct rather than to receive them. She is independent and worried about her own ambitions and goals. She has an enviable energy that sometimes leads her to be aggressive, restless, argumentative and stubborn. It is easy to offend an Aries and, if that happens, it’s hard to make peace with her. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and, in this sense, her role is to start something and lead. It is possible to observe a remarkable similarity with almost all of the features present in Teto. For example, the color of her eyes and hair (red), her depiction as a warrior (Mars), her spiritual energy represented in videos as fire (fire element), her couple of screw-shaped braids (the horns ♈ of Aries) and many other things that makes on think that she was created in the image and likeness of her sign.
