Rockit Apples are tiny apples that are crisp and sweet. They’re perfect for on the go as they’re a snack-size apple and great for kids.

We’re always excited to find new to use produce items and we recently spotted Rockit apples at our local sprouts. There are too many types of apples to count, but we think you’ll find this apple pretty cute and sweet!

What are Rockit apples?

Rockit apples are miniature apples that are sweet and crisp. They are from Chelan Fresh and Barton Fruit, we wouldn’t consider them your average apple. They stand out on their own, even though they are tiny! Just how tiny? About the size of a golf ball. They’re naturally grown to be miniature in size.

Pictured above you’ll see the size comparison of the Rockit apple. First, is a heart-shaped Cheerio, followed by a Rockit apple, and then a SugarBee apple.

What kind of apple are Rockit apples?

Rockit Apples are a mix between a Gala and Gala Splendor apple. They were created without the use of GMOs. They are bright yellow as the base color but then have dark and light red blush overtop. They also have a light tan and white lenticels covering the skin as well.

What do Rockit apples taste like?

They are crisp, crunchy and sweet. We don’t find them to be overly sweet, but they do not have any sour notes at all in our taste test.

Where do Rockit apples come from?

While they were originally created and sold in New Zealand, they are now grown and sold worldwide. In the United States Chelan Fresh and Borton Fruit both grow Rockit Apples in Washington State.

These tiny apples were created to provide a quick and easy healthy snack that has a nutritional benefit. Think of oranges and tangerines.

When are Rockit apples in season?

Rockit apples are harvested in the fall and available in stores year young.

Why you’ll love Rockit apples

They’re the perfect size for tiny hands and kids love them! They are perfect for on the go and they are a great sweet snack. If your child can’t finish a whole apple this miniature apple is a great option.

They come conveniently packaged in containers that are not only recyclable but also made from recycled materials. This prevents the apples from being loose and getting bruised. They are so tiny so they would easily roll around in larger boxes. We have experienced little to no bruising on the Rockit apples we’ve purchased.

How to store Rockit apples

Rockit apples should last longer than regular apples. Our preferred place of storage for apples is a cool and dark area. During the winter you can store apples in a garage, shed, or a cool basement. If none of those are available you could also store them in the refrigerator.

Where to buy Rockit apples

Rockit apples are sold at Walmart, but we found ours at our local Sprouts Farmers Market store. Use this store locator to see if they’re available in your area.

If you cannot find them in your area you can also have them delivered to your home.

Some stores carry prewashed and ready-to-eat Rockit apples, but some containers are not prewashed so be sure to read the container before consuming.
