The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance First Look Photos and Voice Cast

To be honest, we had kind of forgotten about The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Netflix’s prequel series to the beloved ’80s Jim Henson fantasy movie. But it just shot to the top of our most anticipated 2019 series list, because Netflix just released first-look photos of the show’s hyperrealistic puppets and the show’s almost impossibly stacked voice cast.

The leads are Kingsman’s Taron Egerton as Rian, The Witch’s Anya Taylor-Joy as Brea and Game of Thrones’ Nathalie Emmanuel as Deet, three Gelfling heroes who discover the terrifying secret behind the evil Skeksis’ power and set out on a quest to start a rebellion and save their world. And you’re going to need to sit down before we get to the supporting cast, because we’re going on a journey.

As the elf-like Gelfling good guys, you’ll hear Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham-Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong and Alicia Vikander.

The scary alien Skeksis will be voiced by Harvey Fierstein, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Simon Pegg and Andy Samberg.

The 10-episode series features the next generation of Jim Henson Company puppets, which we get our first look at here. They’re so lifelike that they look computer-animated, but they’re puppets, baby! Director Louis Leterrier said at New York Comic-Con that there’s no CGI on the show, and green screen is only used to remove puppeteers. It’s a handmade world and one we’re looking forward to exploring.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is coming to Netflix in 2019.
