Episodes of Season 1 of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure would end by playing the song “Roundabout” by British band Yes. The frame would then freeze, and an arrow would slide across the screen containing the text “To Be Continued.” The show would then cut to credits. The inspiration for this meme was the abrupt ending of an episode, with “To Be Continued,” during an infamous series cliffhanger.

The first known parody of this was a video posted to Nicovideo in 2012 showing a remarkably similar scene to the original cliffhanger from the show Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica (☀https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm19492264). In early 2016, a vine was uploaded with Squidward dabbing interrupted by Jojo’s “To Be Continued.” The meme spread and the “To Be Continued” would be used to interrupt videos where the viewer would expect something to immediately happen, like the moments preceding injuries, destruction, accidents and car crashes. To Be Continued memes has been used in many things and has a similarity to the We‘ll be right back meme. The meme has been used in meme things like YouTube Poops. It has become a world wide meme and people from all over the world used it in a TikTok at a big peek of the trend!
