At the Bear Paw Mining CO. you can watch a performance at the theatre, experience a town in 1898, try a dog sled, or go on a hot air balloon ride. Alaska Wild Berry Theatre and Park has many attractions including a 20-foot high, chocolate waterfall. To burn off some energy, spend the day at H2Oasis, Alaska’s only indoor water park.
The Anchorage Community
No matter what time of year it is, there is also ways something to do in Anchorage. But viewing glaciers is one of the top attractions in Anchorage. From Prince William Sound you can explore countless glaciers. There many ways to experience glaciers in Anchorage including boat tours to see glaciers calving, float planes for unforgettable views of glaciers, dog sledding over glaciers, and kayaking on glacier lakes.
Wildlife abounds in Anchorage. Anchorage is also home to moose, hundreds of bird species including bald eagles, Dall sheep, brown and black bears, beluga whales, and beavers.
Anchorage Mountains and Parks
There are hundreds of parks in Anchorage. Chugach State Park on Anchorage’s eastern edge is one of the largest parks in the nation and attracts many people throughout the year who like to hike, climb, ski, or snowshoe.
Kincaid Park is the perfect place for spotting moose, hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing. Cook Inlet on the Western shores of Anchorage is a great place to fish and spot wildlife. Beluga whales are frequently spotted in Cook Inlet throughout the year especially in the evening near Point Woronzoff off Knik Arm. Beluga Point between Anchorage and Girdwood is another good spot to see beluga whales.
Other mountains near Anchorage include: Mount McKinley, the Kenai Mountains, Talkeetnas, Tordrillos, and the Aleutians.
